Turkish Citizenship Program Official Announcement of New Regulation

Today no new regulation has come into effect. The currently existing application has been updated. Now, let’s first read the English version of this new update.
OFFICIAL GAZETTE Regulation Number: 32397 (Decision Number: 7938) The regulation concerning “Implementation of Law No. 5901 on Turkish Citizenship” has been decided upon in accordance with Article 46 of the Turkish Citizenship Law. December 11, 2023 Recep Tayyip ERDOGAN PRESIDENT
REGULATIONS ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE TURKISH CITIZENSHIP LAW
ARTICLE 1 – In accordance with the Council of Ministers’ Decision No. 2010/139 dated 11/2/2010, the phrase “real estate in foreign currency value” in subparagraph (b) of the second paragraph has been changed to “real estate with condominium or construction servitude established or land qualified as a building plot in foreign currency value”.
ARTICLE 2 – This Regulation shall enter into force on the date of its publication.
ARTICLE 3 – The provisions of this Regulation shall be executed by the President.

Official Announcement, Not an Expansion but a Contraction in the Turkish Citizenship Program
Now, let’s focus on the content of the directive that is already in effect. The directive has evolved from “real estate in foreign currency value” to “real estate with condominium or construction servitude established or land qualified as a building plot in foreign currency value.” This means that foreigners who want to acquire Turkish citizenship through investment can’t just buy any land. The land they purchase must either have a completed settlement process, be in the process of receiving title deeds, or at least have a structure on it.
Foreign citizens were previously able to acquire citizenship by purchasing land. Now, there is a new requirement that the land intended for purchase must have a structure on it. Please do not be misled by political or uninformed claims that the new directive greatly simplifies citizenship for foreigners.
